Acrylic Paint
Acrylic paint dries quickly, adheres to many grease-free surfaces and is available from fluid, ink-like color to heavy-body texture paint.
Choose acrylic paint based on opacity and viscosity
Pay attention to pigment strength, transparency and thickness. Heavy body retains brush and palette knife marks, while fluid acrylic and acrylic ink are suitable for thin layers, details and smooth transitions. For large studies, student-grade paint is practical; for color mixing and lightfastness, artist-grade paint usually offers more pigment information.
Surface, mediums and drying time
Work on canvas, painting board, wood or sturdy paper that is clean and sufficiently stable. Do not dilute indefinitely with water: use a suitable acrylic medium when adhesion, gloss or texture is important. Acrylic forms a skin quickly; therefore keep brushes moist while painting and clean them immediately after use.
