Cyanotype accessories help with precise coating, drying, exposing and rinsing and keep paper and subject in flush contact during exposure.
Associate each tool with a process step
A soft brush or foam brush helps distribute the solution evenly; measuring cups and pipettes support repeatable mixing. Transparencies and negatives should provide sufficient UV contrast, while glass or plexiglass keeps the subject flat against the paper. Choose dark, tightly sealable bottles when product instructions specify them for storage.
Work cleanly and avoid cross-contamination
Use clearly marked tools for cyanotype only and never for food. Check material resistance, protect solutions from unwanted light and follow the safety information of each chemical product. Test a new brush, transparency or contact plate on a test strip first, so that streaks, scratches or insufficient pressure do not spoil a complete print.
