Painting Mediums
Painting mediums change how paint flows, adheres, dries or shines. This collection includes primers, gesso, thinners, binders, texture products and varnishes for different painting techniques.
Medium, primer or varnish?
A primer prepares the surface and may improve absorption or adhesion. A painting medium is mixed into the paint while working to alter transparency, flow, drying time or texture. Varnish is applied as a protective final layer only after the work has dried sufficiently.
Use a medium only with the paint type it is designed for: an acrylic medium is not automatically suitable for oils and vice versa. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for mixing ratios, drying and ventilation. Combine this collection with artists' paint, canvas and brushes and tools.
