When should you choose this paper?
Choose FineArt Smooth for a smooth matt surface without the sheen of resin-coated photo paper. The warm paper tone contributes to the appearance of the print: make a test print if you need neutral white or precise colour reproduction. Ilford specifies the paper as acid-free and free of optical brighteners. This does not guarantee a particular lifetime for your print.
Will it fit your inkjet printer?
Ilford’s product page lists pigment inkjet printers; its technical sheet specifies aqueous dye and pigment inks. Check that your printer accepts 13 × 18 cm, 200 gsm and 300 µm through the chosen feed path. Suitable ink alone does not establish full compatibility. Use an appropriate matt or fine-art setting and, where available, a profile for printer, ink and paper. For a nominal photo size, check the actual sheet dimensions and printer setting; borderless printing depends on your printer’s capabilities.
Preparing and handling a print
Check the surface for loose fibres or debris before printing. Make a test print to assess crop, margins, brightness and colour. Ilford recommends extra care because fine-art prints are more delicate than many resin-coated photo papers. Hold paper by the edges, avoid scratches and use interleaving sheets when storing prints. Keep unused paper in its original packaging, dry and away from direct sunlight.
