When should you choose this paper?
Choose FineArt Smooth for a smooth matt surface without the sheen of resin-coated photo paper. The warm paper tone contributes to the appearance of the print: make a test print if you need neutral white or precise colour reproduction. Ilford specifies the paper as acid-free and free of optical brighteners. This does not guarantee a particular lifetime for your print.
Will it fit your inkjet printer?
Ilford’s product page lists pigment inkjet printers; its technical sheet specifies aqueous dye and pigment inks. You need roll support for 152.4 cm wide paper, 200 gsm and 300 µm. Also check the roll holder, core diameter, maximum roll diameter and permitted print length in your printer manual. The core diameter of this version is not confirmed here. Suitable ink or feed width alone does not establish compatibility. A sheet-only printer cannot accept a complete roll.
Set the roll size, print length and margins. Use an appropriate matt or fine-art setting and, where available, a profile for printer, ink and paper. Print a small test section before producing a long image. Check whether your printer may cut this paper automatically; otherwise follow the printer and cutting-tool instructions.
Preparing and handling a print
Check the surface for loose fibres or debris before printing. Make a test print to assess crop, margins, brightness and colour. Ilford recommends extra care because fine-art prints are more delicate than many resin-coated photo papers. Hold paper by the edges, avoid scratches and use interleaving sheets when storing prints. Keep unused paper in its original packaging, dry and away from direct sunlight.
