Cyanotype printing produces rich Prussian blue tones, but only if the grams of chemicals are measured correctly. Below you’ll find the exact recipe for consistent results.
The Two Cyanotype Solutions
-
Solution A: 25 g Ferric Ammonium Citrate + 100 ml distilled water.
-
Solution B: 10 g Potassium Ferricyanide + 100 ml distilled water.
Mixing Ratio
For the coating solution, mix equal parts of Solution A and Solution B. Example: 5 ml of A + 5 ml of B.
Step-by-Step Printing Process
-
Coat: Apply the mixed solution onto paper or fabric under dim light.
-
Dry: Let it dry completely in the dark.
-
Expose: Place under sunlight or UV for 5–20 minutes.
-
Rinse: Wash in running water until yellow/green disappears.
Why Grams Matter
-
25 g and 10 g are the exact tested amounts that guarantee stability.
-
Too much powder = muddy tones.
-
Too little = weak contrast and pale blue.
